THE LOCAL AREA
A microcosm of London's shifting ethnic patterns, the area around Brick Lane in East London was once associated with poor slums and the scene of the crime for the Jack the Ripper murders. Whilst the notorious pub Ten Bells still stands, the area itself is now extremely popular with London’s edgy and artistic crowd, featuring galleries, restaurants, markets and festivals throughout the year.
The Old Truman Brewery at 91 Brick Lane houses a vibrant market where up-and-coming designers set up shop every Sunday selling a unique variety of clothes, handbags and jewellery. There are also vintage clothing stores and chic boutiques dotted around the area.
As a hub of London's Bangladeshi community, Brick Lane has always been famed for its many authentic curry restaurants. It now also has a reputation for its warehouse art exhibitions and trendy clubs and bars. So, before your East London experience is complete, be sure to head to the Vibe Bars beer garden or 93 Feet East (150 Brick Lane) which has become an East End institution well known for its eclectic mix of live music and intimate atmosphere.
London's oldest market, Spitalfields is now a seven-days-a-week destination. Spitalfields markets, once a Sunday-only mainstay, are open every day. Resplendent under a Fosters & Partners-designed glass canopy, Spitalfields Traders Market and shops offer cutting edge fashion and interiors, original artworks and as well as food.
Spitalfields market is surrounded by independent shops, cafes, bars and awarding winning restaurants like Canteen, Galvin La Chapell and Giraffe.
COLUMBIA STREET FLOWER MARKET
For an authentic East London experience, nothing comes close to Columbia Road market on a Sunday morning. Jam packed with the best blooms in the capital, it’s a lively and pretty noisy affair (and not for those who prefer peace and quiet on a Sunday), with salt-of-the-earth Eastender types, shouting at the top of their lungs and all trying to outdo one another's patter.
During the rest of the week you can dine and shop at the rest of the quaint little restaurants and boutiques.

Comfortable and clean room. Excellent host.
The apartment is in a well connected area of London, close to both train and underground stations within 10 minutes walking distance. When we arrived we had a very difficult time retrieving the keys from the safe-lockbox located outside the door - as it turned out, the owner had given us the incorrect combination. Although it was frustrating, we were able to get into contact with him via telephone right away. When we opened the lock box, our room keys weren't inside even though it was after 3, the designated check in time. We decided to just leave the bags and go to the center. After we returned later that evening, the keys were in the lock box and so we could enter into the room. The room was clean and was as advertised. The bed was what you'd expect from paying this price, and the pillows were flat (I recommend that you bring your own). Our individual room locked just fine, but we had issues locking the front door, most of the time we had to just leave it unlocked because the bolt was stuck. The bathroom was alright, the toilet and shower are in separate rooms, both rooms barely big enough to fit a person and the appliances. However everything functioned properly and was clean. My boyfriend was too tall for the shower, he's about 188cm - but there was always hot water even though there was an entire apartment full of people showering one right after the other. Also ladies, there are no outlets in the bathroom, so any hairstyling had to happen in the bedroom. The kitchen was modest, but included everything we needed on a basic level. We just bought our own breakfast, but the apartment had some cereals, coffee, and tea. There is only one small pot and one small pan in the kitchen. That's all the useful information I can give - it was a good place to stay on our budget, I don't have any major complaints - it was no Ritz Carlton, but you get what you pay for.
The room is really nice, in good condition and clean. It is very close to the next tube station, there is a supermarket across the street and lovely pubs in the area. Unfortunately the street is very loud and I had some trouble sleeping. Except for that I had a really good time!
We got all the information we needed via mail from our host and it was easy to find the place.
Our room was o.k. for two nights.
The bathroom could have been more cleaner and the toilet seat was broken.
We found some cereals and tea in the kitchen, that was fine, but there was´t any milk to eat it with. The kitchen was clean though.
We would´t book the place again for another stay in London.
Great location, near the undergraund station!difficult to take the keys.Fortunately we were helped by a young couple who were in our apartment.windows little insulation from the cold and a lot of noise coming into the room. wi fi free.Clean. all in all a good apartment for those who have many needs and a budget...
Comfortable room. Quiet area.
The apartment building is easy to find, when you follow Kaz directions. He wasn't there to hand over the keys, but we got the keys from the safe right by the door. The neighborhood is quite mixed and colorful. There are many halal restaurants on Mile End road, but also a variety of other restaurants and pubs. I highly recommend breakast at Foxcroft and Ginger across the street of the apartment. A Tesco supermarket is also right across from the apt. The apartment itself is ok, it could be cleaner and needs to be renovated. Kaz should also invest in matress covers. Our room was spacious but quite cold, as the windows are very old and thin. It is very loud at night, you should definitely bring earplugs. Subway stations and bus stations are very close and get you everywhere 24/7. We only stayed for 3 nights, if you plan longer trips I would recommend to invest more.
Quite a small room but perfectly comfortable and clean. Kaz is also great to book with; always ready to help out.
About 10 minutes walk from the tube but very quick into central London from there. The local area is quite friendly too.
